The Howard Johnson affectionately known as the HOJO is my preferred hotel in Anaheim. Only a short 8 minute walk to the Disneyland entrance. The park views are incredible, the newly renovated retro vibe rooms and the refreshing water playground makes this hotel one of my FAVORITE properties for a Disneyland vacation or staycation. About the rooms

At the Howard Johnson the rooms inside building #1 and #2 have been recently renovated with an adorable retro vibe. The other four small buildings have not been renovated just yet. There are two room types.

2 Double bed Standard room – these rooms have NOT been renovated yet and reflect a lower price per night.
2 queen beds Deluxe room – these rooms HAVE been renovated with an adorable retro theme. Only located in Buildings #1 and #2.

So keep that in mind when you’re booking, choose the specific room type you’re looking for. I’ve only stayed in the NEWLY renovated rooms and I love them. The queen beds have pillow top mattresses and are heavenly after a long day in the parks. Each room includes a microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, breakfast nook area with table and bench. Cute Mickey artwork on the walls, beautiful bathrooms with amazing lighting and a big TV with Netflix, Disney channel and more. Need something just ask Alexa on your night stand. Across the street from Disneyland

You are literally across the street from Disneyland. You can see the Matterhorn and Space Mountain from some of the park view rooms. The short walk to Disneyland down Harbor Blvd takes about 7-8 minutes. At the end of a long night it’s nice to know you’re so close.

Parking

The hotel charges $20 per night to park.

Water Playground and Pool

Castaway Cove is just one of the reasons families love staying at the HOJO! The pirate-themed, water playground with slides, water cannons, toddler wading pool and super drench bucket keeps kids entertained for hours. While the kids play, the adults can hang out in the large Hot Tub spa or the lounge chairs. Oh and did I mention it’s heated year round. Even in December the kids can play at the water. Castaway Cove is a great option for a mid day break from the parks. If you want a more separate secluded area for swimming check out the new Garden Pool on property as well.

Breakfast

Breakfast is not available at this hotel. They do have the Main St. Market inside building #1 where you’ll find fruit, cereal, granola bars and other small breakfast items for sale. Or you can bring your own items to store in the fridge. The other option is to grab breakfast on your short walk to Disneyland. You pass by a Panera Bread and McDonald’s.

More amenities

The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi for hotel guests. Also on property, the Main St. Market offers snacks, drinks, toiletries, souvenirs, hats, sunglasses, ice cream, fruit and more. The store is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Game Room is currently under refurbishment. Also many of the rooms on the higher floors have great views of Disneyland. If you’d like to see fireworks from your balcony these rooms are for you. This is an upgrade to your room, but an option to consider. My review

I have been staying at the HOJO for a few years now, ever since they started renovating their rooms. The most recent addition of newly renovated rooms in building #2 allows for more guests to stay in these fun themed rooms. The clean rooms are comfortable with plenty of storage and I love the table to sit at in the room.

The friendly staff has always taken good care of my family. My mom remembers staying at this hotel back in the 1960’s with my grandmother. So when I come to the HOJO it just feels like home. I would definitely recommend staying at the Howard Johnson during your Disneyland vacation.
