Height requirements for rides at Disneyland and DCA
Share on PinterestShare on FacebookEmail

Some attractions at Disneyland have a minimum height requirement. It’s a good idea to measure your child before your visit.  If you’re wondering what rides your little ones can and can’t ride, well I’ve created a list for you to reference for both parks. I put them in order of height required to ride the attraction.

Height requirements in each park

In order to ride the following attractions here are the height requirements.

Rides located in Disneyland will have DL

Rides located in Disney California Adventure will have DCA.

32 inches or taller

  • Autopia – DL
  • Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters – DCA
  • Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree – DCA

35 inches or taller

  • Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster – DL

38 inches or taller

  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – DL

40 inches or taller

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – DL
  • Space Mountain – DL
  • Splash Mountain – DL
  • Star Tours: The Adventures Continue – DL
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – DL
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT – DCA
  • Jumpin’ Jellyfish – DCA
  • Radiator Springs Racers – DCA
  • Soarin’ Around the World – DCA
  • Silly Symphony Swings – DCA

42 inches or taller

  • Matterhorn Bobsleds – DL
  • Goofy’s Sky School – DCA
  • Grizzly River Run – DCA

46 inches or taller

  • Indiana Jones – DL

48 inches or taller

  • Incredicoaster – DCA

The magic number is 48 inches tall. Once your child reaches this height they can ride EVERYTHING!  So if you don’t see a ride listed then anyone can ride on that attraction.  Over on this post I listed all the rides that have NO height requirement.  Oh I remember the days when my kids wore shoes with thick soles, thick socks, put on a hat and prayed they would be tall enough!   Just know these requirements are for their safety.  The cast members will not allow your child on a ride if they don’t make the cut.  Don’t beg and plead with them, they are just doing their job.

 Print a FREE attractions list

I have created a list of all the attractions in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.  The list includes which rides have a height requirement as listed above but all in one place for you to quickly look at.  Click here to print your lists for your trip.

You can also find the height requirements for attractions in the Disneyland app.  Search under attractions and each ride will list requirements as needed.  And for a list you can use the filter button in the top left hand corner and choose the height button to narrow your search.

Rider Switch option

But what if you want to go on some of the attractions listed above that your child can’t go on?  Well Disney created a great option to allow groups with little ones to still enjoy E-ticket attractions called Rider Switch.  Let me explain.  Rider Switch is when one adult waits with non-riders while the rest of the party waits in line for the attraction and rides. Then the adult who was waiting switches roles and goes in the attraction return line to board without waiting in the regular queue.  This person can take one other guest with them for a maximum of 2 guests.

With Rider Switch you can go on a no height requirement ride while you wait.

See a cast member at the attraction for swapping details and they will help you.  Rider Switch is available at select attractions in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The following rides offer Rider Switch in Disneyland.

  • Autopia
  • Space Mountain
  • Star Tours
  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Indiana Jones
  • Matterhorn
  • Go Gadget’s Coaster
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

The following rides offer Rider Switch in Disney California Adventure.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT
  • Soarin’ Around the World
  • Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters
  • Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree
  • Radiator Springs Racers
  • Incredicoaster
  • Silly Symphony Swings
  • Goofy’s Sky School
  • Jumpin’ Jellyfish
  • Grizzly River Run

Both parks have kid friendly play areas to explore.  Find out more about those areas here. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to take their photo with Mickey and other characters.  Find out how to locate characters here.

Lastly if you’re in need of help planning your day I recommend this post for Disneyland and this post for Disney California Adventure.  I share how to fit all the rides in one day with the least amount of time waiting in lines.

About Shantelle

Hello and welcome to my page where I share tips, information, strategies, news, events and more mainly about the Disneyland Resort. Growing up my grandparents owned a travel agency. I watched my grandmother plan and lead tours all over the world. Between her and my mother, I learned the importance of planning before you go on a trip to make the most out of your time. While my main focus is Disneyland you’ll find info about other Disney parks and Disney cruises too!
If you’re overwhelmed or need help planning your trip I offer customized touring plans.
